Car Carrier Sinks After Colliding With Box Ship
Four sailors died and seven others were missing last night in the North Sea after their cargo ship carrying cars collided with a container vessel and sank about 30 miles outside the Dutch port of Rotterdam.
The collision between the Baltic Ace, a car carrier sailing under a Bahamas flag, and the Corvus J, from Cyprus, took place in a shipping lane, which is one of the busiest in the North Sea and an important passing point for ships sailing into the Rotterdam port, Europe’s largest and the fifth-largest in the world, reported The Times.
Rotterdam port spokesman Sjaak Poppe said the collision would not affect shipping in and out of the port.
