New York Container Terminal Signs Deal to Handle Waste

New York Container Terminal on Staten Island has entered a 20-year contract with Covanta Energy to move municipal solid waste in
containers in a barge-to-rail transfer beginning March 2015.
 
Under the agreement, the terminal will receive the containers via barge and load them directly onto railcars for shipment to Covanta energy-from-waste facilities. Sealed empty containers delivered via railcar will be loaded onto the barges for return transport to a New York City (NYC) marine transfer station.
 
This long-term agreement will allow us to create jobs while improving the environment by moving to more efficient barge and train transportation,he said.

    纽约集装箱码头与卡万塔能源已经签署了一个20年的合同，合同内容为从2015年3月起，将城市固体废弃物集装箱经驳船转移至铁路运输。
 
    根据协议，纽约集装箱码头将通过驳船接收集装箱，直接装到火车上并运往卡万塔能源的废物设施接收器，然后密封的空集装箱再通过铁路运输将其装到驳船，并运输到纽约市的海洋转运站。
 
    通过进行更有效的驳船与铁路运输，不仅改善了纽约的城市环境，还增加了就业机会。
