Buckeye Partners' purchase of 20 Hess products terminals positions the US midstream company on the front lines of product export growth, while securing its status as a premiere storage and terminal operator in the New York Harbor, analysts said.
 
Buckeye said Wednesday it has agreed to pay $850 million for the terminals, which hold 39 million barrels of capacity. Nineteen are in the US and one is in the Caribbean.
 
The US products terminals are located mostly along the East Coast and include 15 million barrels of "strategic" storage in New York Harbor, the company said. Other terminals are located in upstate New York, the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Seventeen of the facilities are marine terminals, with 12 having deepwater access.
