LA-Long Beach container throughput increased 3pc in October

Container volume through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in October was up three per cent year on year, fueled by a six per cent increase in imports, according to the port authorities' data.

Los Angeles October volume increased 4.6 per cent year on year to 715,682 TEU, fueled by imports, which went up 7.2 per cent to 370,938 TEU.

Los Angeles October exports declined 6.7 per cent to 158,181 TEU year on year, which LA said was due to weaker demand because of a stronger US dollar.

October box volume through Long Beach was up one per cent to 583,009 TEU year on year, led by a four per cent increase in imports to 310,482 TEU, while exports fell 14.9 per cent to 310,482 TEU.
