UK shelves double-tracking upgrade from Felixstowe to Birmingham area
Hong Kong's Hutchison port at Felixstowe, the UK's biggest, has been denied an important double tracking railway upgrade to Nuneaton, 160 miles away outside Birmingham.
State-owned Network Rail, owner of British railway real estate, has stopped its plans, saying costs had increased significantly due to the complexity of the project, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
The project involved transforming the Ely-Soham rail line in Cambridgeshire from one track to two and removing a major bottleneck for trains between the Midlands and the Hutchison port.
