Rotterdam port authorities take over container rail service

Goal is to boost service competitiveness and ensure further environmental sustainability.

AUTHORITIES at the Port of Rotterdam have decided to take over the operator of its rail service.

PortShuttle Rotterdam started operations back in 2015 linking up all container terminals at the port with a service five times a week along the Rail Service Centre Rotterdam network.

This service cuts expenses for the exchange of containers by up to 20% and provides an environmentally sustainable alternative to moving containers on trucks.

Port authorities decided to assume full control of the PortShuttle service due to uncertainties over the future of the operator.
